Solution Benefits

With the latest high-power Power over Ethernet delivering more than 71W, the potential for this technology is rapidly expanding. As well as smart building / IoT sensors, VoIP services and IP cameras, PoE can power point-of-sale equipment, lights, AV systems, window blinds and laptops.

PoE is an inherently safe technology with failsafes and checks built-in. This means legacy equipment can be combined on the same network as the latest technology without fear of equipment damage. Upgrades and reconfigurations can be made with a minimum of disruption, without having to affect other areas of the network, and without having to involve costly electrical engineering specialists.

Time and cost savings - by reducing the time and expense of having electrical power cabling installed. Network cables do not require a qualified electrician to fit them, and can be located anywhere.

Device flexibility - No need for electrical outlet tethering , devices such as IP cameras and wireless access points can be located wherever they are needed most, and re-positioned easily if required.

Outlet Icon

Reliability - PoE comes from a central and universally compatible source, rather than a collection of distributed wall adapters. It can be backed-up through uninterruptible power supply, or controlled to easily disable or reset devices.

Real time analytics - Offering information sharing from IP-enabled devices, enabling the two communication between devices and a central location.

Smart Connectivity

Control - PoE cabling allows ensures devices can be controlled and managed remotely.

Empowering your Structured Cabling

Power over Ethernet provides a convenient and cost-effective approach to deliver both power and data connectivity over a single connection.
However, with Power comes responsibility. When designing PoE networks, we need to look at both PoE standards ( such as IEEE 802.3bt ) and those standards that impact cabling systems. It is critical to ensure your cabling design and implementation complies with both.
The Molex PoE Implementation Guide, provided as part of the Molex PoE Calculator tool, provides invaluable guidance for those implementing PoE infrastructures.
